As per news reports the ICAI has requested/ represented to the GST Council to extend the due date for filing of Annual GST Return in respect of Financial Year (FY) 2017-18 from 30 June 2019 to 31 Oct. 2019, i.e. by 4 months.

ICAI has written to the GST Council Chairman and Finance Minister of India Ms Nirmala Sitharaman to consider extension of the deadline for filing of said Annual GST Return in the upcoming meeting of the GST Council on 21 June 2019.

ICAI has represented that forms for Annual GST Return were notified in March 2019 only and taxpayers/ professionals are still in the process of understanding the same due to the facts like first return, multiple changes in the GST laws from time to time, technical issues at GST Portal, etc. Further, ICAI has also factored in the deadline of 30 September 2019 for furnishing of ITR/ Tax audit Reports for FY 2018-19.

Already many other Professional Bodies/ Associations have sought extension in last date for filing of the Annual GST Return and it is expected that GST Council will consider such representations.
