Ministry of MSME, GOI launches special drives for increasing Udyam Registration under the new online system, offers registration without PAN and GST upto 31st March 2021 as transitional arrangement.
More than 11 lakh MSMEs have registered themselves since launch of new online system w.e.f. 1st July, 2020, which includes approx. 9.26 lakh cases having PAN number, 1.80 lakh cases holding old UAM and 1.73 lakh cases where enterprises are owned by women.
From 1st July 2020, the Ministry of MSME has revised the definition of MSMEs and process of their registration. A new portal has also been launched for MSME/ Udyam registration (https://udyamregistration.gov.in), which is seamlessly integrated with CBDT/ GST/ GeM networks to make MSME registration a totally paperless exercise.
Further Ministry of MSME has instructed MSME Development Institutes, MSME Technology Centers, NSIC, KVIC, Coir Board, etc. to extend full support to entrepreneurs for Udyam Registration. Also, all District Magistrates and District Industries Centers have been requested to expedite MSME registration.
Grievances relating to MSME registration are being handled by CHAMPIONS’ platform through its network of Central Control Room and 68 State Control Rooms across the country.
Enterprises those which are not yet registered are advised to register themselves for availing the benefits of Ministry of MSME and other Government agencies. The MSME/ Udyam registration process is absolutely free of cost.
The process of registration should be completed only on the relevant Government portal hosted on Govt. domains (i.e. showing .gov.in). In this regard, applicants have been advised by the Govt. to be careful of fake and misleading agencies and websites/ portals.

Summary Analysis of MSME/ Udyam registrations (more than 11 lakh cases) till 31st October 2020;
i) 3.72 lakh enterprises have registered under Manufacturing category whereas 6.31 lakh enterprises under Service sector;
ii) The share of Micro Enterprises is 93.17% whereas Small and Medium Enterprises are 5.62% and 1.21% respectively;
iii) 7.98 lakh enterprises are owned by Male whereas 1.73 lakh enterprises by Female entrepreneurs;
iv) 11,188 enterprises are owned by Divyangjan entrepreneurs;
v) The Top 5 Industrial sectors of registrations are – Food Products, Textile, Apparel, Fabricated Metal products and Machinery & equipments;
vi) 1,01,03,512 persons have been given employment by these registered units;
vii) 5 leading States for Udyam registrations are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat;
viii) Registration without PAN/ GST Number is permitted upto 31st March 2021 as a transitional arrangement.
